Richard GillespieRichard Gillespie gets a kiss from one of his horses, a five-year-old named Ash, while posing for a picture at his farm in Oxford, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Gillespie, who has been a pilot since he was 17 years old, founded the organization TIGHAR (The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery) in 1985. While researching other famous missing aircrafts, people kept asking him about Amelia Earhart, the famous female aviator who disappeared in 1937 over the central Pacific Ocean in an attempt to circumnavigate the globe. Gillespie is testing the theory that Earhart landed, and later died on Gardner Island, now Nikumaroro, part of the Phoenix Islands of the Republic of Kiribat.
